My first reupholstery project

Tim and I purchased a Dining Room table and 6 chairs for $50 at a yard sale. The wood is very sturdy and in excellent condition, but the fabric on the chairs is tattered and stained. So I bought 3 yards of gray striped fabric at Field’s Fabrics for about $13, and have recovered one chair so far. Here are the pictures (click to enlarge):

Not bad for knowing nothing about reupholstery, right? You probably noticed the fabric is a little buckled on the sides; this is because I stretched the fabric a little too far when I stapled it. I won’t make the same mistake on the other 5 chairs. If I have enough fabric left over, I will redo the first chair.

Painted Clouds

I don’t always get to be outside on nice days, which means when something cool happens, sometimes I have to hear about it on the news. But that’s okay. This is pretty awesome regardless. These clouds were seen this afternoon in the West Michigan sky…

It happens “only when the sun is more than 58 degrees above the horizon. The sun shines through cirrus clouds that are made of plate-like ice crystals. The light is refracted or bent as it passes through the crystals. Each color of the solar spectrum bends at a slightly different angle, so it makes what looks like a rainbow.” (WOODTV.com)
